The courses have been extensively revised to meet the requirements of the Revised National Curriculum Statement (RNCS). New Bridge to English Grade 4 builds on the literacy skills established in the Foundation Phase. The focus of language learning in this grade is still on fluency, although increasing attention is paid to vocabulary and grammar.

The New Bridge to English Grade 4 Learner's Book contains Maggie the Magic snake as a reading text at the back of the book. New Bridge to English Grade 5 consolidates language, things and learning skills as learners move closer to accurate use of language. In this grade, there is a focus on language across the curriculum.

New Bridge to English Grade 6 emphasises the development of skills needed for successful learning in the Senior Phase, including writing skills, summarising, mind mapping, collecting and recording information, sequencing and analysing.
